2021 - One of the Best Yet

January - We always start the year off with a bang, by welcoming another wedding anniversary.  This year (2021), we celebrated 10 years!!  Happy Anniversary Garrett!!  Love you!  This month we took some time to vacation in Tennessee.  This was the girls' first time seeing snow and they had an absolute blast.  Garrett and I thoroughly enjoyed every second as well.  One highlight was getting to see our dear friends Lauren and Andre while there and spend a little time with their family.  This trip was definitely by far one of all of our favorites and we cannot wait to go again!

February - I went up to Alabama this month to visit my sister and brother-in-law... oh and my new baby nephew that was just born the end of January!  I really wish that Amanda and Thiago lived closer so we could see them more and snuggle that sweet baby Maverick more, but I will soak up any chance I get to spend time with them.

March - This month the girls got to come with me to meet their baby cousin for the first time!  They were so excited to hold and snuggle Maverick and were such great helpers.  I really am loving being an aunt to this sweet boy and I cannot wait to watch him and the girls grow up together over the years.  This month, Grace got to attend her first barrel racing banquet and actually won the Peewee class, bringing home her first barrel buckle.  She was one happy and surprised girl.

April - April means it's Grace's birthday month!  Happy 9 years baby girl!  And, this year her birthday fell on a barrel race... but there was nowhere else she'd rather be.  Icing on the cake, she took home the win that day!  We also did our first big overnight barrel race in Unadilla, GA.  Grace had so much fun and it really was a great learning opportunity for all of us!  Cannot wait to do more of these, especially now that we have our own travel trailer to camp in and transport our horses.

May - This month Scarlett got her very own horse!  She has been riding a little while now and has just really started barrel racing competitively like her sister.  We knew it was time to find her match... and Harley is her match made in heaven.  Grace got to celebrate the birthday of her sweet friend Grace this month and experienced her first overnight trip without mom and dad.  She had so much fun and we could not have picked a better family for her to experience that with; thank you Goodmans!  I'm sure we will be planning more play dates and sleepovers in the future.  While she was away, Scarlett was of course sad without big sis... so her and I did a mommy-daughter day and went painting!

June - This was the month for summer camp!  Both girls went to Lake Aurora this year, but without mom.  They are now past the age for the parent/child camp, which makes me a little sad, but they were really excited.  They each went their own week and made sweet friends, while also spending time with existing friends.  I cannot wait to continue watching them grow year to year at this camp.  This month, Grace got to participate in her first ever State barrel race!  She got to ride in the Silver Spurs Arena and had so much fun!

July - July means it's Scarlett's birthday month!  Happy 7 years little bit!  This month we celebrated at a barrel race... go figure, HAHA.  Although, this was a big barrel race... this was the NBHA Youth World and Grace's first time experiencing such a large event.  Thank you Melissa for such a wonderful experience!!  We made sure to shower Scarlett with love while there and celebrate her on her day too.  She had so much fun... both girls did!  And, did I mention we are expecting number 3?!  This month we found out it's a girl!!  We could not be more excited to be welcoming another sweet girl into the mix.  Scarlett was not too happy of the idea... she wanted a boy and just about cried when she heard it was a girl.  She's past that now though and is really excited to be the "middle of the sandwich"... she's the good stuff, as she'd say... the cheese! LOL.

August - Well, we are back around to August, which means back to school.  Thankfully, this year is starting to look a little more normal.  We actually got to go meet the girls' teachers in person and both girls are over the moon because they got exactly who they wanted (lucky ladies).  They are very excited to be back to school in person, with optional masks, and back to seeing their school friends.

September - Sheppard reunion was this month and it's always so much fun!  It was extra fun this year too because two of the girls' favorite cousins were there.  The girls had so much fun with Ava and Logan.  We always enjoy the reunion because it's filled with great people, great food, fun games, and lots of lake swimming.  This is also Garrett's birthday month!  We had a lot of fun at the Rays game for his birthday with dear friends Brian and Sara and their sweet family.  We definitely need to plan more of these because they are always so much fun!  Happy birthday handsome.  I also celebrated 5 years with Duke Energy this month.  I cannot believe it has already been 5 years and what a growing and fun experience it continues to be.

October - October is my birthday month and this month my birthday weekend was spent at the Mother-Daughter retreat.  This is always  such a special event for myself and I know my girls and mom enjoy it also.  This was our 4th year at the event and it was as great as ever.  Scarlett and Grace had the opportunity to cheer this month with the high schoolers.  They absolutely loved it and I'll tell you what, that Scarlett has the voice and clapping of a cheerleader.  Grace was just radiant and such a light out there.  We are back on track this month for homemade Halloween costumes too!  Thanks Nana and Granny for the help and creativity... the girls looked great and LOVED their one of a kind costumes (Wolf and Spider).

November - This month was a whirlwind in our household because Garrett and I, BOTH, started new jobs.  I took a new position at Duke Energy and Garrett moved to a different company, ISM.  He is sad to leave Leidos, but is excited about this new opportunity.  I am nervous about my new venture, but am very excited to be going into management.  This was definitely a God thing.  It was also in large part due to great mentorship; Duke has afforded me wonderful friendships and mentorships.  I will forever cherish my relationships there, especially yours MJ; thank you!  Things in the world are slowly trying to get back to normal and this month Scarlett got to attend another Jiu Jitsu tournament, which she had not done since COVID-19.  She started off a little nervous and hesitant, but finished strong, bringing home a silver medal!  Way to go little bit!  We made sure to also do our annual tree cutting this month before baby sister arrives.  The girls got to see Santa as well.  Just days after cutting down our tree, we were at the hospital welcoming our newest little peanut, Shelby Laine, into the world!  She was born November 30th at 1:17pm, weighing just 6lbs 9oz, and was 19in long.  She is our smallest baby and is definitely the final puzzle piece that we've been waiting for all these years.

December - This month was a big one for Scarlett... she earned herself her first barrel racing buckle by earning reserve champion (2nd place) of the Peewees at the WVSC finale race.  She also was promoted to a solid gray belt this month at Jiu Jitsu.  Thank you Coach Annie and David for always pushing and encouraging her... she is so excited!  Lastly, we celebrated Christmas this month and this was Shelby's first Christmas.  The girls hit the jackpot with a new basketball hoop from Santa and with some awesome scooters from their Nana and Papi.  All in all though, we are just very grateful for the time with family... many of the great grands even got to meet their newest great grandbaby this month.  That is something I will cherish and I'm sure they will cherish forever.

Here's to a blessed filled year... full of love, joy, gratitude, and faith.  God has really blessed us and I pray that we never take any of those blessings for granted and that our girls grow up grateful and faithful.

2020 - A Year for the Books

January - This past year for Christmas my parents gifted our family with tickets to see Jurassic World Live Tour.  It was incredibly fun and such an awesome experience with the girls.  This month Grace also started training on the lyra with Ms. McKenna and LOVES it!!

February - This month was quite the busy, but fun one!  The girls and I did our annual lineman rodeo outing to support our Duke Lineman.  The girls and Garrett attended the father-daughter dance this month, which was Scarlett's first experience and Grace's second.  I was able to attend a Legoland field trip with Scarlett this month, which was fun, but she did give me a scare when she blacked out on her first big girl roller coaster.  We had our annual state fair trip and took a sweet friend with us this year.  Thank you Frank and Jeannine for lending us your child for the day!  We attended the Daytona 500 with great friends, whom we are SOOO happy moved back to Florida!  Lastly, this month, Scarlett Lily got to train with the one and only Hannah Goldy!

March - We started this month by attending a Zach Williams concert with some very sweet friends.  It was an amazing night of worship and music.  One highlight of that evening was meeting Cain the band.  Paul and April, thank you for this wonderful night.  Scarlett had her very first Jiu Jitsu tournament this month.  We are so proud of this girl.  She fought hard and gave it her all.  We ended the month with a trip to North Carolina for spring break to spend some quality time with family.

April - This month started out strange with spring break not really ending; COVID has come around and the entire country has practically started shutting down.  This meant that the girls were now doing school virtually and Garrett and I have both started working remotely from home.  This was quite the change, but I will say the girls handled it like champs.  I'm so grateful for their teachers and for Garrett and I's jobs.  We are able to bring some normalcy to the family despite the abnormality of it all.  One way to keep things normal is holding a barn birthday for Grace's 8th birthday.  Thank you Melissa for helping to pull this one off.  I think Grace is sold on barn birthdays for every birthday!  We have started attending church virtually this month, but that does not make Easter of any less importance.  Happy Easter!

Happy Birthday Grace Lynn and Happy Easter

May - This mothers day, we spent it with our dear friends.  And the husbands did great by getting us a nice dinner and helping with the kids, while April and I could just relax for the night. We also visited the fire fighters which was a lot of fun!  After a month and half of shut downs, we attended our first barrel race again!  So thankful for more normalcy!!  Well virtual school and school in general has finally come to an end for the school year and the girls had their virtual awards banquet; Grace received the "Super Smiler" award and Scarlett the "Personal Best" award.  We are so proud of them both.

Fun at the Fire Station

June - I took the girls painting this month.  I love our girl time!  Scarlett has been asking and is finally old enough (in our eyes) to get her ears pierced... she did amazing and was so excited.  We also adopted a new member of the family this month.  Rory Girl came into our lives at just the right time... Scarlett (our puppy lover) was over the moon and cannot wait to raise sweet Rory and be a good mama to her.  Thank you so much Tracie for trusting us with a piece of your heart.

July - This is the month of camps.  Scarlett did Jiu Jitsu Camp while Grace got to do Aerial Arts Camp.  They both always have such a great time and they looked forward to each and every day.  We celebrated little bit's 6th birthday this month; where is the time going?!  Sadly, we had to put down our sweet gentle giant, Bailey.  Bailey has been a part of our family from day 1 and reached the golden age of 40.  We are very heartbroken, but are so grateful that he is no longer in pain.  Love that sweet guy!! Scarlett has started riding with Melissa this month and is LOVING it!!  Lookout Melissa, you're in for it now; looks like we will have two little barrel racers to keep up with.

August - Finally, as the girls would say, BACK TO SCHOOL!  They have been counting down to the days they were able to see their teachers and school friends again.  This month, I got to surprise my sister in Alabama unexpectedly for her baby reveal... then we were surprised when we found out her and Thiago are having a little boy!!  Woohoo!!  I am so excited to be an Aunt to the luckiest little guy ever!  On the way home from my sisters, we made a pit stop and I got to see my best friend of 31 years.  We go years without seeing each other unfortunately, but we never miss a beat.  Stephanie, your turn to come down here now!

This time I surprised Amanda and Visited with Stephanie

September - Grace got to ride in her first larger, multi-day, show.  She rode in PacWest and absolutely loved every second.  She is growing such a fondness and joy for riding.  She also adores all the older girls and looks up to them, so she was on cloud nine getting to hang with them all weekend.  Also this month, our sweet Grace Lynn was baptized.  This is by far the biggest and best decision she will ever make in life and it brings Garrett and I joy that is unexplainable.  If nothing else, this is probably the single most important and exciting thing of the year.  I love you baby girl and cannot wait to see what you do for God's kingdom.

Proud and Excited for our Baby Girl

October - The girls and I (plus nana this year!) attended our annual mother-daughter retreat and had so much fun.  We saw some old friends and also made new ones.  Grace had her aerial showcase this month and performed on the lyra for the first time.  This is quickly becoming a greater love than silks... I didn't think that was possible.  Her Aunt Boo was even able to see the performance which meant the world to Grace.  While Boo was here, we got to spend some time with her one last time before baby Mav makes his arrival.  We also went trunk or treating this year for Halloween... costumes were quite fitting for each girls personalities.

The girls are gaining a baby boy cousin!!  And, Halloween with the vet and detective.

November - Scarlett attended another Jiu Jitsu tournament and did amazing!  She won a Gold and Silver medal and was on cloud nine!  We are so proud of her for how far she has come.  Garrett and I celebrated the marriage of our dear friend and former neighbor, Esther.  Congratulations Esther and Rusty!  Here's to new beginnings and happily ever afters.  We celebrated Thanksgiving this month with family and we certainly do have so much to be thankful for.  We ended the month with our annual Christmas tree cutting.  We sure did get a big one this year too... 13ft!  Garrett wants to go taller next year, but I may have to veto that decision.

Little Bit earned a Gold and Silver medal!

December - We watched Grace perform for Light up Mount Dora and followed up with a stroll through downtown checking out all the beautiful lights.  Scarlett attended her first ever belt ceremony this month and was promoted to Gray/White belt!!  She also got to meet the one and only Hector Lombard, which is pretty cool!  Thanks Coach Annie and David for that wonderful opportunity and event.  Another big highlight of not only the month, but of the year, is that we have added another member to the family.  Grace now has sweet Freya and is excited to grow with her.  I just adore the bond that they are already building.

This year has been quite the interesting one.  However, despite the country shutting down, our family was blessed to be able to spend more time together making some incredible memories.  Whether this year was difficult, exciting, or emotional for you, I hope that you each can take something positive from it and cherish that.  If anything, it has opened my eyes to just how precious and amazing family time is.  I hope to continue cherishing this time and valuing it highly, especially as Garrett and I look forward to 10 years of marriage on the 1st!!  Happy Anniversary Garrett, I love you forever and a day!
